A wise man told me – you know what he said? He said ‘if you know what you want, you got to go out and get it!’ Well, I know what I want Just as sure as I’m born ‘Cause I want you baby, like a chicken wants corn That’s how I want you… I don’t need no fortune teller to give me the news ‘Cause I know, I was born for the Blues And I know what I want Just as sure as I’m born I want you baby, like a chicken wants corn I like the way you do the thing that you do I want to play with you baby You can play with me too… I know what I want Sure as I’m born I want you baby like a chicken wants corn A wise man told me – you know what he said? He said ‘if you know what you want, you got to go out and get it!’ Well, I know what I want Just as sure as I’m born ‘Cause I want you baby, like a chicken wants corn That’s how I want you…

People say - am I in the family way? But, hey, I just love my food… I’m built like a woman’s meant to be built With a belly, butt and boobs I got something to say to their rude little ways I put a swing in my swerve Excuse me, won’t you, while I celebrate my curves Well, it sure don’t matter what God gave you When you’re strutting it down the street ‘Cause I use what I got - and some stuff that I bought When I’m swinging out to the beat Round and round my circles are bound Straight lines went out with my teens I got plenty to love, plenty to shake And I’m wild about making a scene! So won’t you shake like that, shimmy like this I put a swing in my swerve Excuse me, wont you, while I celebrate my curves Well, I’m the gal that rocks like a motor boat When I’m strutting it down the street I got stuff that shakes like jelly on a plate When I’m swinging out to the beat So won’t you shake like that, shimmy like this I put a swing in my swerve Excuse me, wont you, while I celebrate my curves I’m gonna mess around right now… Excuse me, wont you, while I celebrate my curves
3.
The wild, wild wind You know the wind is bound to blow The wild, wild wind You know the wind is bound to blow You can’t deny it darling ‘Cause the good lord made it so I ain’t had no rest nor peace And you know that ain’t no lie No rest nor peace You know that ain’t no lie Since that man of mine That man of mine came sliding on by… But I bought the ticket baby And you know I’m bound to ride I bought the ticket And you know I’m bound to ride I’m gonna stay with my man I’m going to travel right by his side ‘Cause the wild, wild wind You know the wind is bound to blow The wild, wild wind You know the wind is bound to blow And you can’t deny it baby ‘Cause the good lord made you so
4.
I thought I knew you, baby But that was way back when… When I was young and foolish I thought that love would never end And I just couldn’t believe The depth of your disguise But now I look – I see a stranger in your eyes I thought the world of you But I didn’t know The man I trusted would ever stoop so low And I just couldn’t believe, could not believe The depth of your disguise But now I look – I see a stranger in your eyes I see a stranger Where I once saw a friend I see a weak man Where my hero used to stand You don’t want to admit That what you’ve been doing is wrong…it’s so wrong And now I find out You’ve been doing it for so long I thought I knew you But that was way back when… When I was young and foolish I thought that love would never end And I just couldn’t believe The depth of your disguise But now I look – I see a stranger in your eyes Now I look – I see a stranger in your eyes I look, I see a stranger in your eyes…
5.
You gonna miss me baby, if I ever get gone You gonna miss me, baby, you think you’re so big and strong Because I got you Did some voodoo on you And that’s not all that I’m gonna do to you I got a tattoo, put it right on your soul You can sit there thinking, ‘bout your long-time used-to-be Well, try thinking, darling, how you’d make out without me? Think again – lover and friend Well, you’re my funky, black rooster - I’m your little red hen And you’ll never find a gal as fine as me again! You gonna miss me, baby Best admit that it’s true You’ll miss my sweet smile and every little thing I do for you You’ll miss me talking…for hours on the phone You’ll miss all that stuff of mine That’s catching dust around your home Oh baby, if I ever get gone… You gonna miss me baby If I ever get gone

High Cotton 03:07
I’m gonna be standing in high cotton one fine day I’m gonna be standing in high cotton one fine day I’m gonna be standing in high cotton All my trials gonna be forgotten Standing in high cotton one fine day Well, I’ve been so low down (ain’t got a lousy…) I’ve been so low, I ain’t got a lousy dime But one of these days I hope and pray That things are gonna go my way I’ll be standing in high cotton one fine day Please, Lord, hear my plea Please, Lord, hear me… I got mouths to feed I got bills to pay It’s like rolling a stone up a mighty hill I started rolling one day and I’m rolling still But I’ll be standing in high cotton one fine day I’ll be standing – have mercy I’ll be standing in high cotton one fine day (you and me baby – won’t we have a time then!) I’ll be standing in high cotton All my trials gonna be forgotten Standing in high cotton one fine day…

Your baby got a pigmeat lover, ‘cause you didn’t treat her right She got a pigmeat lover, cause you didn’t treat her right ‘Cause if the loving’s good A gal is gonna cook all night She’s got a pigmeat lover, man, what you gonna do? She’s got a pigmeat lover, what you gonna do? You didn’t care before But now you’re sorry that the gal shot through She got bacon in the morning, in the evening she got barbecue She got bacon in the morning, in the evening she got barbecue She got a little bitty boy doing everything she want him to And she love the way he shake it with the meat shaking on the bone She love the way he shake it with the meat shaking on the bone She got a little something She ain’t gettin’ at home (yodel!)

Hold Me 03:13
Hold me, hold me, pretty baby Hold me, baby Hold me the whole night long ‘Cause you’re one I want beside me when the day is done Hold me, hold me, pretty baby Squeeze me, darling ‘Cause I think the whole world of you And you’re one I want beside me when the day is through Well, I’ve seen men more handsome, baby And I’ve seen men with money too But you’re the only one, pretty baby That makes me feel the way I feel when I’m with you So hold me, hold me, pretty baby Hold me the whole night long ‘Cause you’re the one I want beside me when the day is done Jamais casse mon coeur You’re the one I want beside me when the day is done

about

Lucky 13 delivers sassy and soulful electric and acoustic blues from Fiona Boyes, the first Australian – and first woman – to win the Blues Foundation’s International Blues Challenge. Fiona’s magnetic stage presence and infectious smile have charmed audiences both abroad and in the US – she’s performed at the W. C. Handy Awards, Chicago Blues Festival, Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise, and Portland’s Waterfront Blues Festival.

Recording in Austin TX, Fiona was joined by a full band including special guests Marcia Ball, “Steady Rollin’” Bob Margolin , and Kaz Kazanoff & the Texas Horns to record a tour-de-force of raw acoustic blues, swing, electric blues, rockabilly – and every style of blues in between.

Lucky 13 also showcases Fiona’s proficiency as a songwriter – she penned 10 of the 13 songs on the disc. Her understanding of American roots music and clever storytelling distinguishes her songs from records which merely cover blues standards. But this album is not a nostalgic walk through your parents’ music collection. Boyes’ contemporary sensibilities perfectly mix the soul of the blues in her songs to give this album a thoroughly fresh feel.
