about
This song was written some years ago in Melbourne, Australia.
I never suspected back then that I would finally record it in Austin, TX where this high-lonesome sound would feel so right. The lyrics contain clues that reflect a certain social/political era in Australia, but I think there is a timeless quality to the sentiments expressed here. Maybe we all need some ‘good news’ now more than ever.
lyrics
I’m waiting for some good news
Worn-out waiting for some good news
Waiting for my lucky break – for all that money I’m gonna make
I’m just waiting for some good news...
I live in a poorer part of town
Where desperation and gambling machines
Lay thick upon the ground
And you see things here you might not see
Out in the leafy parts of town, where they’re making policy
I’m waiting for some good news
I’m just waiting for some good news
Checking my mail three times a day
For something that’ll drive my blues away
I’m just waiting for some good news...
I see poor people waiting in line
While them that’s got
Got their hand out crying ‘Gimme’ all the time
I see little people working hard for little gain
Meanwhile a shifty businessman
Is living it up in Spain...
I’m waiting for some good news
I’m just waiting for some good news
Let there be joy and grace, show me optimism has it’s place
I’m just waiting for some good news
Waiting for my lucky break, for all that money I’m gonna make
I’m just waiting for some good news
Checking my mail three times a day
For something that’ll drive my blues away
I’m just waiting for some good news
I’m just waiting for some news...
