about

Written by fellow-Australian blues musician Chris Wilson, this song originally appeared on his ‘King for a Day’ album. Chris is known for his huge voice and harmonica tone; his tough shuffles and bear-like menacing stage presence. He recorded ‘Look Out Love’ as a sort of rockabilly romp, so I thought it would be fun to turn it into a shuffle. Aided and abetted by Watermelon Slim’s wailing dobro, I try to put a little bit of Chris’ trademark attitude into it.

lyrics

Look out love I’m gonna get you
Look out love I’m on your trail
Love I wish I’d never met you
Gonna spread salt on your tail
They say love’s a bird with splendid wings
But it’s open season on feathered things
Push has turned to shove – look out love!

Well, I looked across the truck
To the place you used to sit
But since you flew the coup, babe
I had to pack it up and split
Moon-equipped, twin carburetors
Glove compartment, ‘Dear John’ letter…
Good God above – look out love!

I got a plastic dancing Elvis
On the dash for company
I dropped my guard, I went in hard
I should’ve been TCB
I started digging these foolish notions
About shooting stars – and crashing oceans…
Too much emotion, mean old love…

So look out love I’m gonna get you
Look out love I’m on your trail
Love I wish I’d never met you
Gonna spread salt on your tail
They say love’s a bird with splendid wings
But it’s open season on feathered things
Push has turned to shove – look out love!
